B12 boost improves baby's chances, study suggests

Women who take a vitamin B12 supplement on top of folic acid could reduce the chance their baby will be born with spina bifida by a further 30 per cent, a study from St. Michael's Hospital suggests.
And while the study of 500 pregnant women will need further research to verify the protective link, the paper's author says women hoping to become pregnant should immediately ensure that the vitamin supplements they take include the B12 compound.
