Facebook is just as bad as anything else internet related, you just have to be careful.

I guess it has replaced the annoyance of 'personal calls' at the office. Now people have found another way to socialize while at work.

I like FB, I wish they can private/secure ur pics a bit more so that no one can save them for no reason. Just in case.

just do this, make an account but don't put any info of urself up or pics and make sure u set ur private settings so no1 but ur friends can see ur account ;)

That's 'cause we're so insanely good looking ... I had to block,hide everything, not use my full/real name, etc (except for my friends)

On a serious note... Facebook is ok, to keep in touch with real friends, otherwise, just like all other similar sites, it can be a little freaky-ish

umm.. i don't think so... the good thing about Facebook is that ppl can't see your Facebook account unless you give them access. So if you want to know who's looking at your account, look no further than your "friends list" but if you want to know who's "searching" you.. i dont think it can be done.

EDMONTON (Sun Media) - The Facebook phenomenon presents perverts and jerks with a new way to do the same old thing, say experts.

"If there's an exploit, they'll (bad guys) try to use it," said Det. Kevin Fald, of the Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation unit.

"That's why we'll never be out of work."

The social-networking website Facebook.com allows users to upload pictures of themselves, biographical information, and even has a spot for personal information like a phone number and a home address.

Users network by getting permission online from friends to add them to their friend list.

From there, other friends can meet - and find - mutual friends, or even strangers, by surfing through each of their friend's contact lists.

Almost 75,000 people belong to a regional Facebook network devoted to Edmonton.

It's grown about 20,000 people in the last two weeks. And Facebook is growing at a similar pace throughout North America.

Fald said he hasn't heard of any local cases of real-world stalking or abuse stemming from Facebook, and he credits that to the site's myriad privacy settings.

"You can be public or not," he said.

On the similar sites Nexopia.com and Myspace.com - both have been involved in cases of luring children for sex acts - users can be looked up in a public directory, said Fald.

But on Facebook, one can virtually shield their information by tweaking their privacy settings.

Sandra Danco, executive director of WIN House, a local organization with two locations that support women and children escaping abusive circumstances, said novel ways of communicating give new outlets to the same impulses and aggression.

"It's abusive behaviour - it's just being used in a different forum," said Danco.

While one cannot physically abuse another person over the Internet, they can make threats to do so, they can spread rumours, and they can abuse emotionally, said Danco.

"It's another option for the person to exercise control," said Danco, adding she's seen an increase in cellular phone texting abuse and cases involving social-networking websites.

Fald said it can be easy to protect yourself from online troubles.

"If you don't want the whole world to see it, you shouldn't be putting it (online)."
