,. I agree with all the comments above,. also people learn in different ways,.. probably the kid doesn't like the way he/she is learning,.. and also take in consideration when this problem started,. and then the cause for his/ her behavior,.. knowing the problem you will be able to find a solution,.:)

@ TV Buff - I big heart too, just no tolerance for nonsence. I was brought up like that & my brothers & I turned out fine. We would get our spanks when needed.

As to the reverse, of course. LOL

BTW Xavi doesn't have a bigger heart then me, we just see thing diffrently. LOL

I hope Xavi has a bigger heart.

Hopefully you do the spanking and the investigating in reverse order.

@ Luna
My kid's school has it (at a cost) He didn't really need it, he just had a bunch of his little friends going, so...
it's great, specially in my case (I can pick him up later)

I see what you mean about your language barrier

@ Dogo... I think that depends on the school system... I remember they used to do that when I was in high school but never elementary school and elementary school was probably when I needed it most 'cause of the language barrier

I also think its more scarce now because of government cuts backs and budget disputes.. its always that students that suffer

Pretending my teacher was naked always did it for me (yes, a female teacher )

on a serious note: don't schools have tutoring programs, so that kids can stay a bit later and get help with their homework, etc?

I agree with all of the above

I hate it when I'm late to post in a thread and everyone's already pretty much said what I would say

Not to come off as 'preachy' but I truly believe that children succeed academically when the parents are 100% involved in everything they do. I don't mean DOING the kids work but sitting with them, looking over their work, challenging them to do better. As painful as it may be sometimes (cause sometimes you just want to do another load of laundry or start dinner) but actually sitting down and preparing for tests and projects with your kids makes a HUGE different.

ANYHOO... have the parents look into all other factors that could be their son's issue.... bullying, learning disability, not being challenged enough, etc... and like Genie said, putting him in a program that contours to his needs and abilities is probably what he needs.

OH one last thing... as for tutoring and such... KUMON is a great... SYLVAN, OXFORD... there are tons of services out there...

Lady - the parents should look into it a bit more cuz at that age no kid should hate school and yes i agree with Guada maybe its a bully issue or could even be a learning disorder! i had one and thats why i hated school at first then my mom got me in the right programs and it set me straight! also maybe they just dont like the teacher dont feel good in her/his presence i would tell the parents to SERIOUSLY INVESTIGATE IT!

Maybe he/she is super gifted like me?

Don't hate.

Hey, MiMi could be right (not about his own intelligentsia-- that's up for debate) but maybe the kid is not being challenged enough at school. Or maybe the teacher doesn't motivate him or her. The parents should discuss this with the teacher.

JC and i did the same thing the other day weird!!!

even tho Mimi might be joking he is right, there is people that might find things too easy and don't care about it but it could also be that the person has A.D.D.
You should give him some test and see what the problem really is.

What do you do if your kid doesn't like school at all....let's say at the age of 6 or 7......and he/she hates doing homework because they are so distracted....NOT LAZY.....just not interested in school AT ALL......

I'm looking for good advice....and even if you know of any TUTORS that can help with this...

Take the distractions away...Normally parents have to be part of it...as parent you have to sit with them and do it together, make it fun. set goals....

But I think the biggest issue is what is making the kid to behave that way...

The parents should try to sit with them and make it fun. At age 6 or 7 their homework shouldn't be that hard, so parents can share and help them with their work-- not DO their work, but guide them along. I also think that kids should always have 1) A separate space to do their homework in (a desk in their room or a separate private place) and 2) a set routine. This is very important. If you let a kid do whatever they want whenever they want, they won't do their homework. If they know that at certain times they have to sit and do homework, all the time, and the parents are strict about it, that will become part of their routine and they won't even second-guess it. But taking part in their homework and sharing it with them should encourage them more than anything. Learning IS fun and the younger they learn this, the better.

I'd try to find out the real reason behind it. Maybe there is bullying involved? because i don't know of any kid who dislikes school because of distractions. Isn't school one big distraction in itself? with recess (ahh recess) lunches, gym and so on?. At age 6 or 7 they've just started grade one and two. Those should be fun years for them.

What sorts of subjects are you looking to get help with?
