@Colo:  good to hear that you only do it when you go out, but me no I have usually 2 or 3 a day, but I am going to start again to see if I can actually do it the same as you, since I don't go out that much anymore wink

Dont worry about girl, it's hard to quit.  Heck, I said earlier on in the thread that I had 2 cigarrettes last Friday.  I have not had any since then, but this weekend i'll probably smoke.  But i'll try to limit it.  At least i dont really feel that need anymore to smoke during the week, in the car, during breaks, etc.  So I give myself credit for that.

o.k, o.k then I guess nope, I don't feel that bad, yeah I probably would have another cigarrette over the weekend but you never know so far nothing yet

Hey, speaking of religion and cuaresma and all that jazz, did you guys hear about the documentary that James Cameron directed about the finding of Jesus and Jesus's family tombs in Israel? So the catholic church and various religious entities estan poniendo el grito en el cielo (pun intended).

Anyone else hear this?

I heard about this on the radio.  I would like to see that documentary though.

I was raised as catholic and this is supposed to remain us the 40 days Jesus was in the dessert adn Devil was tenting him and etc etc etc,. this is like Christmas,. everyone remembers GOD during this "celebrations",. .. why????????

Thanks girl.  I gotta say that I have been pretty good.  Ok, last Friday I did have two cigarrettes, and Confu is my witness  Hey, at least im admitting it, but after that I have not touched a cigarrette.  Like I said before, Im cool with the social smoker thing.

As for  your comment about just remembering God on this ocassion, trust me girl, that is not the case with me.  I got to church almost every Sunday (I miss the odd Sunday), I pray, etc.  Im not gonna say im a 100% devout catholic, but I do practice the religion the best I can.  As for the smoking, I just thought cuaresma would be a good starting point.

HELLO!!! AS MUCH AS I CAN TELL LIL MAN WHY I SMOKE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM DOESNT HELP....THEY JUST TELL THEM THE NEGATIVE AND THIS AND THE OTHER.....PERSONALLY THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IS ALSO RESPONSIBLE OF TEACHING KIDS WHY WE GET HOOKED OR THE OTHER.......

...and now if you could put that into a more understandable language such as ingles or spinach, I would understand you fully!

Sure the school system has the responsibility to teach kids the harms of smoking and they do teach; but it only can go so far on its own.  Other kids around your kids – peer pressures will be factors when they get grow older; but the first education kids get is at home. Not to say that no matter how hard parents try, they won’t give in when tempted on the outside. But showing BY EXAMPLE AND TELLING THEM VERBALLY what not to do is much stronger than just telling them something is not good for them.

A kid will understand that smoking is bad because you tell them – but if your kids SEES YOU smoking, then the kid will be getting mixed messages.  I have heard many times that kids who grow up with parents who smoke are much more likely to pick up the habit than kids who grow up with non-smoking parents.

well this comment is not really true, my parents never smoked and I do so I don't know where you get this from

It obvioulsy wouldn't apply to every case - like any rules, there are exceptions.  You, my friend, are a lost case!  me a lost case well maybe I am

As for where I gett he info - I paid attention when they talked about smoking in school - you probably were skipping school and/or not paying attention   I used to skip school so maybe was one of those days :smile:I did provide a link above - but again, you may not have been paying attention! http://www.dentalplans.com/articles/Children%20Smoke%20Because%20Parents/ blah blah blah

Or I have also seen many cases where the parents smoked, and the kids never ended up picking up the habit.  Usually it turned them off from smoking.

We can’t just tell our kids "DO AS I SAY, don’t do as I DO" - They tend to learn from example.  I think wanting to be a good example to your kids is a big encouragement to try really hard to quit your habit.  Good luck to you both withy our lent promise – If you make it 40 days, you will have proven yourself that you can go on without smoking and may get easier from then on.

As to responses to the kids when asking - it may be best to be honest and let them know that you tried smoking and got hooked on it and that you would not want THEM doing the same.  Further explaining that you are trying to do something to kick the habit.

well finally you actually made sense LOL j/ks, thank you for your comments

We can’t just tell our kids "DO AS I SAY, don’t do as I DO" - They tend to learn from example.  I think wanting to be a good example to your kids is a big encouragement to try really hard to quit your habit.  Good luck to you both withy our lent promise – If you make it 40 days, you will have proven yourself that you can go on without smoking and may get easier from then on.

As to responses to the kids when asking - it may be best to be honest and let them know that you tried smoking and got hooked on it and that you would not want THEM doing the same.  Further explaining that you are trying to do something to kick the habit.

well so far so good third day without a cigarrete, but tonight I don't I'll try my best since I'll probably will be having some drinks I have to stay strong

You gave up smoking as well?  Good for you girl?  What was ur reasoning behind it?  As for me, I have also been smoke free.  Like I said before, I know myself and I will probably end up being a social smoker, but at least for lent, I dont want to smoke even if I go out.

well believe it or not my reason is MY SON, he just started to mention it to me recently and so I guess is a good reason to try to stop, I did for the lent, if hopefully I could manage to stay that way good for me otherwise, I'll probably do the socially smoking but who knows

I get what ur saying, my oldest daughter was also a HUGE motivator in this.  I think now a days, in school, they're really drilling it into the kids of how bad smoking can be.  I NEVER smoke around my kids, but my daughter knows I smoke because if someone is over or we're at someone's house, she'll see us steping outside, and she's not dumb.   So if I can leave it at the social smoking i'll be ok with that.

yeah I know what you mean I never smoked around him etiher but as soon as you are outside with someone they assume that you are also having one, but hopefully we will be able to do it

HELPFUL HINT: To make it easier to stay away from cigarettes tonight, when you step outside with your friends and they light up their cigarettes, you should just roll up a blunt and smoke the hell out of it – don’t share it with anyone!

yeah you better run with that coment, do not need to roll up anything I'll just keep on drinking instead of smoking
