Figures this would be at the John Garland Boulevard, Jamestown area......

This is a good way to clean up the neighbourhood.....but yes it's also unfair to the families who had nothing to do with it and were just sheltering the criminal......at least when asked to get out, they should have been given an alternative where to go.......but I can see how that woul dnot be a good idea either..... imagine you know the family of a criminal is coming to your neighbourhood?  lol ....and not just one family.....more than 10!!  How would you feel?

I live it that area and it ain't that bad

And Lb drugs aren't only in jamestown here read this

Police swarmed a Vanauley Walk housing complex just after 7:00pm Wednesday night in a gang sweep targeting members of the "Project Originals', who authorities contend have been engaged in serious criminal acts in the area since the late 80s.

One by one police escorted the men in handcuffs to waiting cruisers.  In total seven people were arrested, with being five alleged members of the notorious and long-standing gang.

The group are well known for violent robberies and cocaine trafficking in the area near Augusta and Queen.

Police say the members now in custody are high-ranking members of the gang and that their arrests came after months of investigation, which also recently led to charges being laid in the Regent Park area.

Police say the arrests of key 'Projects Originals' will significantly curb gang violence in the area, but with an estimated thirty members still at large, the investigation is ongoing.

All seven suspects remain in custody and face numerous charges including robbery and trafficking cocaine

THIS IS THE MOST RETARTED ARTICLE I HAVE READ IN A LONG TIME THKS MJ!!! THIS IS AS BAD WITH HIS COMPUTER NOVEL!!!

BUT PERSONALLY WAT WOULD THAT SOLVE?? THEY EVICT THEM THEY HAVE TO LIVE SOMEWHERE SO WHERE EVER THEY MOVE IT COULD B AS BAD AS WHERE THEY WERE LIVING.....PLUS THE SON WAS EVICTED ALREADY SO WHY DO THEY HAVE TO KICK OUT THE REST OF THE FAMILY?? INSTEAD OF EVICTING PPL FRO JAMESTOWN WHY DONT THEY FRIGGEN CLEAN UP JANE AND FINCH??

Jane and Finch ain't bad at all. There's the occasional stabbing or homicide, a little drug dealing and some Piracy, but there are alot of good people that live there.
Every place has bad people and I don't think evicting them will help.

Would moving the families be a solution to the crimes???? I don't think so,. where are the persons who had commetted those crimes,??? if the police know about them,. why don't they put them in jail,. ???? to "clean up" a neighborhood  ones need more than just move them out,..

I can't believe NO ONE has an opinion on this!!!!

I will take a moment and take a break from viewing and posting and in "Official Babe forum" to say that this does suck in a way. I agree with LB that if they are going to evict them atleast give them an alternative as to where to go.
All I know is I wouldn't want to be the landlord of that complex.
He's pretty much issued himself a death wish

But do all tenants, regardless of where they live, receive alternatives when they're evicted?

No, but now that I think about it the situation isn't that bad.
They should have no problems finding new apartments. Most of them are now vacant cause everybody is buying homes.
Now if they live in Government homes they are phuked.

I was reading this article and thought it would be a good thread to debate about today.

What do you think about this issue?

In an effort to increase safety in Rexdale housing projects plagued by violence, a city landlord has served eviction notices to families with ties to suspected gang members.

City-owned Toronto Community Housing is forcing 13 families out of their homes for the alleged illegal actions of their relatives.

Gillian Whyte is one of them. The mother of two received a document from the housing organization informing her that she and her 13-year-old daughter must find a new place to live.

"It says that me or someone in my house committed an illegal act and we have to move," she said.

"I have nowhere to go."

Whyte has lived in the John Garland Boulevard and Martin Grove area for a decade.

Last spring police swooped down on the neighbourhood and charged about 100 people with gang-related offences in a massive crackdown on the so-called Jamestown Crew - a criminal band authorities allege is responsible for much of the crime there.

Whyte's 19-year-old son Carlyle, who no longer lives with her, was one of the suspected gang members arrested in that raid, but the mother says she has no control over her adult child's actions.

"I don't have no say in what he does. He has a mind of his own," Whyte said. "Me (and) his sister  ... is punished for what he does."

About a month after the arrest, Whyte was given an eviction notice, which gave her 10 days to leave her home.

Some of the families that were served eviction notices have left of their own volition, but Whyte and seven others have promised to fight back and argue their cases at the Ontario Housing Tribunal. Their hearing resumes March 12.

While the move may seem unfair to some, the landlord of the city-owned complex says officials usually try and work something out with tenants to allow them to stay.

But Keiko Nakamura, Chief Operating Officer for Toronto Community Housing, says the mass evictions are the only way to make this troubled area safer.

"Certainly we would not permit illegal acts to happen on the site," he said. "It's not fair to the other residents who call those places home, too."
